History/Special Events
With portraits, postcards, stories, and other family photos of the past owners and the town's residents, a wonderful glimpse into the rich history and daily life in Mooresville unfolds before your eyes on the walls of the Limestone Bay Trading Company, Inc.
In 1908, Claude and Lou Oliver built a shoe and dry goods store and soon after built the adjacent house on the premises. After the Depression, Oliver moved the family to other properties and sold the business.
Towards the end of the Second World War, Mack and Mary Bedingfield bought the property, house and business. They renamed it 'Bedingfield's General Store' and became a popular stopping point on the route between Huntsville and Decatur, Alabama. With its jars full of hard candies - like lemon, peppermint and horehound - bubble gum, licorice and many other sweets lining the shelves, the children who came in with their parents had fond memories of the general store. At Bedingfield's, everything was available for your quick need or for your regular visit. Whether you were stopping for gas and a treat, or you were picking up needed supplies to refill your home and pantry, they had what you needed. If you needed clothes and shoes to get ready for school or church, you could go over to Bedingfield's and get what you needed. Mack Bedingfield, always there with a helping hand, had the saying, "We doze, but never close." After 50 years of dozing but never closing, the Bedingfield's sold the home and buildings on the property to Jeff and Dee Green.
With daughter Jaime, the Green family restaurant was born keeping down home charm and southern hospitality. Like one customer put it so well, eating here is like going home to eat every day, you're not sure what you're going to get, but you'll never be disappointed.
